On April 29th, I leave for a 2 week Art Residency at Mesa Verde National Park in Southwest Colorado. I'm hoping to blog on a more regular basis than I did when I was in Baghdad back in January.

Last September 2017, Durk and I traveled to CO and spent a few days at Mesa Verde visiting the famous Ancestral Puebloan Cliff Dwellings, and hiking. Many of the trails wove through areas of the park where there had been substantive fires leaving behind a landscape that has been transformed into living sculpture gardens with radiant dead trees. I was blown away by the beauty of it. I ended up submitting a proposal for a residency, and was again blown away by being offered one of the 5 residencies for the 2018 season.

My time there will be spent rambling the trails and back roads, photographically documenting mainly with double exposures and camera movement the many fire sites of the park. I will also be learning about the fire history and the impact of drought and climate change on the future of native tree regeneration.

I look forward to joining the:
“long established tradition of artists creating art in our National Parks”.

Below are a few photos from our 2017 Colorado trip.
